I've realised that I'm going to have to name the different setts that I'm keeping an eye on. The footage below comes from last night's action at one of the entrances of Sett C.
I was really pleased with the footage in this series of clips featuring at least one cub. The Badger that has the cub in its jaws at one point seems to be bigger, but I'm not exactly sure what the relationship between them is. It doesn't seem big enough to be a sow. Any thoughts appreciated. And there's a brief fascinating shot in the fourth clip of one of the Badgers leaping into the air in shock for some reason. The sequence ends with a Badger emerging from the sett during the beginnings of the dawn chorus and trundling off elsewhere to spend the day!
The Red Fox vixen on this clip must have visited the sett soon after I'd set up the camera. She looks quite mangy. There are two short clips of a different Red Fox that visited the sett several times during the night - running up to the entrance, having a sniff, and then running away again. It reminds me of the story of the little boy who went up to a door and rang the bell, running away before the owner had time to open it!
This Brown Rat also spent quite a bit of time around the sett entrance between visits from the Fox & Badgers!
Wonderful video clips - keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement, Mike. The camera is set up in the same place as yesterday evening, so I'm hoping for some more good badger footage!
